The losses suffered by the Prussian palaces during World War II | Paintings, vol. 2

Pastels, miniatures and silverpoint drawings, pictures on porcelain, paintings on glass  and reverse glass paintings, mosaic pictures, pictures from textile materials

The second volume of the catalogue of losses from the painting collection of the Foundation for Prussian Palaces and Gardens in Berlin & Brandenburg is dedicated to the miniatures, pictures on porcelain, pastels, glass and mosaic pictures from the Prussian palaces. It primarily catalogues the small format works of art which were especially heavily decimated as a result of the destruction of the last war and the looting in the immediate post-war period. For example, over half of the original 150 pastel s are missing, and of the original collection of circa 400 miniatures only 16 are still in the possession of the SPSG. The paintings which have been found and returned to the collection of the SPSG since the publication of the first catalogue of losses in 2004 are pictured in colour in an appendix to the second volume. The 200 page second volume is completed by comprehensive concordances, an index of portraits, and an index of artists.

The catalogue of losses was published in 2011.
