Charlottenburg is the largest and most significant palace ensemble in Berlin of the former Brandenburg electors, Prussian kings and German emperors. In its early days, the palace was not in the middle of a pulsating city but in the countryside on the outskirts. The Hohenzollern rulers liked to stay here, also because of the idyllic location. They resided at Charlottenburg Palace and Gardens for more than three centuries. Today, visitors can learn about the changing tastes, expectations and demands of the palaces’ numerous residents.
Following massive damages during the Second World War, the palace and gardens have been rebuilt and restored since the 1950s.
