Cecilienhof Country House

To the info page of the venue

Built from 1913 to 1917 in the English country house style, Cecilienhof Country House is the last palace built by the Hohenzollerns. Emperor Wilhelm II (1859-1941)
had the residence built for his eldest son, Crown Prince Wilhelm (1882-1951). Until 1945 it was the residence of the last German Crown Prince and Crown Princess Wilhelm and Cecilie of Prussia (1886-1954).

From July 17 to August 2, 1945, the palace at the gates of Berlin became the scene of world history, the site of the Potsdam Conference,
where the heads of state and government of the three main victorious powers of the Second World War, the United States, Great Britain and the Soviet Union, discussed the future of Germany and a political and territorial reorganization of Europe and the world.
While World War II was over in Europe and the "Big Three", Harry S. Truman, Winston Churchill and Josef Stalin were negotiating, the fighting in Asia and the Pacific region continued unabated, culminating in the dropping of the atomic bombs
on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9, 1945

The permanent exhibition takes visitors on a journey back in time to 1945 in the historic palace rooms with the conference hall and the workrooms of the
three heads of delegation.

We provide the following group offers:

  • Entrance Cecilienhof Country House, the historic site of the Potsdam Conference (available until  October 31, 2024)

We are improving for our guests. Closure of Cecilienhof Country House due to renovations from November 2024 until approximately mid-fall 2027!

The project primarily focuses on the technical refurbishment and renovation of currently vacant hotel areas of  the Hotel (Schlosshotel Cecilienhof) to offer guests a modern and comfortable environment. Planned is the comprehensive renovation of at least 38 hotel rooms, including new sanitary and bathing facilities as well as the renewal of technical equipment. The hotel entrance will now be located in the east wing, enhancing accessibility for visitors with mobility limitations through the installation of a passenger elevator. Alongside hotel operations, a dining facility will also be integrated, open to both hotel guests and visitors of the castle. The Cecilienhof Country House entrance will be situated at the western main portal of the driveway, ensuring barrier-free access. This will make all exhibition rooms related to the Potsdam Conference, the museum shop, and the museum café on the ground floor of the Ceciliehof Country House accessible to visitors with mobility impairments."
